The deposition of collagen fibers was assessed in sham and bile duct ligated rats with and without nicotine. 3 weeks after the surgical procedure, liver tissues were obtained and collagen fibers were stained with Masson’s trichrome. bile duct ligated was associated with extensive bridging fibrosis (portal to portal and portal to central linkage with fibrotic bands). The deposition of fibrotic tissue has increased in the rats of the bile duct ligated group that received nicotine injections. All tests were repeated three times
